In 1880 D. Luis Melo of Portugal, Marquis of Vellisca and Spanish Grandee (Nobleman grandet the privilege of not having to uncover his head before the King), having renounced the crown of Portugal, settled on the estate known as El Balcó, where he bulit a palace was named Torre Vellisca.

Later wine cellars were adjoined to the palace and it was here where prepared from the farms known as Rincón de Sancho, Rincón de Traver, Casa Nadal Casa Ejea, Casita Nueva, Finca de Peller, Casa Guerola and El Balcó, all of these being his properties. Each farm had cultivatable land and scrubland, totalling 300 Has. of agricultural farmland and 350 Has. of forests. Each farm run by a local family and the last cellar manager, D. Eugenio Pastor, is at present a partner of the new wine cellars.

Bodegas Torrevellisca, built in 1993, is the culmination of the hopes and wishes of 28 farmers from Fontanars dels Alforins who, having considered converting their vinyards years ago, decided to come together under the name of S.A.T. 8954 BODEGAS TORREVELLISCA; to set up the joint management of the viticultural enterprise aimed at obtaining wines of a very high quality.
